Concept of Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram - Strength of Materials [Solved Problems]

In this video we are Going to Learn about How to solve problems on Shear Force diagram [SFD] and Bending Moment Diagram [BMD] for Cantilever beam, simply supported beam, overhanging beam with three Loads and simply supported beam with UDL.

Types of Beam are:

1) Cantilever Beam
2) Simply Supported Beam
3) Overhanging Beam
4) Simply Supported Beam with Udl

These problems we are going to solve it, in 3 simple steps.

1. Calculate the values of support Reaction.
2. Calculation of Shear force
3. Calculation of Bending Moment

In first Step I use Condition of Equilibrium [ Summation of all vertical forces = 0] where upward forces treated as positive & downward forces treated as negative. and another condition is [ Summation of moment of all force at Point A = 0] here my sign convention would be clockwise moment as positive & anticlockwise moment as negative. After Calculating the values of support Reaction. I will draw the shear force and bending moment diagram and hear sign convention for shear force calculation is upward forces treated as positive and downward forces treated as negative. And for bending moment diagram the sign convention is for sagging effect of beam, we treated as positive and for hogging effect of beam, we treated this as negative.

Note:

[In shear force diagram, whatever the Portion drawn above the reference line,Iwill show this by positive sign. And the Portion drawn below the reference line, I willshow this by negative sign. So here I have completed shear force diagram
[In bending moment diagram, whatever the Portion drawn above the reference line, I will show this by positive sign. And the Portion drawn below the reference line, I will show this by negative sign.]
