In todays session will learn about Lathe Machine Operations. Here Turning is the operation of removing excess material from workpiece to produce cylindrical surface to desired length. Facing is the Operation of reducing length of workpiece by feeding perpendicular to lathe axis. Chamfering is the Operation of getting a beveled surface at edge of cylindrical workpiece. Knurling is the Operation of obtaining a diamond shape on workpiece for gripping purpose. This is done to provide a better gripping surface when operated by hands. It is done using knurling tool. Thread cutting Operation is used to obtain continuous ”helical grooves” or ” threads’‘. Grooving Operation is the process of reducing diameter of workpiece over a narrow surface.
