In todays session will learn about difference between open die forging and closed die forging and will compare Drop Forging and Press forging operations. In open die forging method, the workpiece is compressed between two flat dies. where in closed die forging method workpiece is compressed between two impressed dies. during Open-die Forging process there is poor utilization of material. but in closed die forging process there is better utilization of material. After Open-die Forging process, machining of components are required. where in closed die forging process machining of components are not required. The dimensional accuracy of obtained products in Open-die Forging process is not good. where in closed die forging process dimensional accuracy of obtained products is good. Open-die Forging process is suitable only for the production of simple components. where closed die forging process is suitable for production of simple and complex components. for low quantity production, Open-die Forging process is used, and for high quantity production closed die forging process is used The cost of dies in Open-die Forging process is low compare to cost of dies in closed die forging process Open-die Forging process is simple as compare to closed die forging process. next process is press forging and drop forging In press forging process, metal is shaped by means of a single and continuous stroke. here pressure applied is slow, steady and continuous in a single squeezing action. where In drop forging process, metal is shaped by means of a series of blows. here pressure applied is impact, and in multi-stroke. The press forging process is a faster process and has higher production rates. where drop forging process relatively slow process and has moderate production rates. The initial cost of press forging process is higher than drop forging process. In press forging process, the deformation obtained is uniform, simultaneous and deep penetrating at center of metal part. where in In drop forging process, The deformation of metal is more at surface layers than that of center of metal part. In press forging process, shape formed are dense and homogeneous in structure where in In drop forging process, shape formed are coarse and not homogeneous in structure in press forging process the Quality of product is good compare to drop forging process.
Types of Drilling Machine Operations: Boring, Reaming, Counter Sinking, Spot Facing, Tapping | Manufacturing Processes
In todays session we learn about drilling machine operations like drilling, reaming, boring, counter sinking, counter boring, spot facing, Tapping operations. so first is drilling operations, in drilling we produce a cylindrical hole inside workpiece. Here, material is removed by rotating edge of cutting tool. And that rotating edge is called a drill. in drilling internal surface of hole is usually rough, and the hole is always bigger than drill size. next is Boring Operation, here we increase the diameter of the hole which was previously produced. Boring operation is done due to machining internal surface of hole which was produced by casting process. Boring operation is done due to correcting roundness of hole and finishing the hole correctly and for making it of required size. The boring tool has only one cutting edge. The boring tool is placed in a boring bar which has a tapered shank. The speed of the spindle in the boring is usually very less than the reaming. the Spot Facing Ope...
