In todays session we learn about types of Drilling Machines and their construction, so there are 7 types of Drilling Machines in market, those are Sensitive Drilling Machine, Vertical or Pillar type Drilling Machine, Radial Arm Drilling Machine, Gang Type Drilling Machine, Multi-Spindle Drilling Machine, Numerically control and Special Purpose Drilling Machine. so here will discuss 7 types, so first type is Sensitive Drilling Machine. which consists of Base, Column, Worktable, Drill head, Feed Mechanism, Spindle, Electric Motor and Pully. here sensitive drilling machine has only hand-feed mechanism for feeding the tool into workpiece. This enables operator to feel how the drill is cutting, and accordingly he can control down feed pressure. here base carries entire weight of machine, and transfer the weight to ground. here we use radial column so that movement of arm is possible in clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. At the top of column, there is upper arm, which carries drill head and also house of driving mechanism. here worktable is generally made up of cast iron and it is mounted on column. One side of arm a drill head is mounted which consist of various feed and driving mechanism. In Feed Mechanism we use an electric motor, V-belt, and pulley to transfer power from motor to spindle. here spindle is a circular taper shaft which helps to hold the drill chuck. here The chuck is mounted on lower end of spindle, it holds drill jig. Here also a keyhole is provided to change the drill jigs. the next is Vertical or Pillar type Drilling Machine which is free standing heavier construction able to take larger drills. It has heavy frame to support wider range of work. The table height is adjustable. The larger drills normally have taper shank located within taper bore in spindle end. In Radial Arm Drilling Machine the workpiece is clamped in position on base. It is used for heavy large work. The arm is power-driven for the height location. The drill head is positioned using motorized drives and it transverse the swinging arm. In Gang type Drilling Machine, several spindles or stations are mounted on one long table.
Types of Drilling Machine Operations: Boring, Reaming, Counter Sinking, Spot Facing, Tapping | Manufacturing Processes
In todays session we learn about drilling machine operations like drilling, reaming, boring, counter sinking, counter boring, spot facing, Tapping operations. so first is drilling operations, in drilling we produce a cylindrical hole inside workpiece. Here, material is removed by rotating edge of cutting tool. And that rotating edge is called a drill. in drilling internal surface of hole is usually rough, and the hole is always bigger than drill size. next is Boring Operation, here we increase the diameter of the hole which was previously produced. Boring operation is done due to machining internal surface of hole which was produced by casting process. Boring operation is done due to correcting roundness of hole and finishing the hole correctly and for making it of required size. The boring tool has only one cutting edge. The boring tool is placed in a boring bar which has a tapered shank. The speed of the spindle in the boring is usually very less than the reaming. the Spot Facing Ope...
